Elizabeth Perkins was born on 18 November 1960 in Queens, New York, US. She grew up in Colrain, Massachusetts. Her grandparents were Greek immigrants. Her parents separated, when she was too young, in 1963. She attended the Northfield Mount Harmon School and then she learnt acting from the Goodman School of Drama. She got married to Terry Kinney, an actor, in 1984, but they were legally separated on 10 October 1988. She is presently the wife of Julio Macat, a cinematographer born in Argentina. She has three stepsons from this marriage, and she has one daughter from her marriage to Kinney.
She performed for the first time on the stage for the Broadway’s ‘Brighton Beach Memoirs’ in 1984. She worked in many ensemble companies afterwards, including The New York Shakespeare Festival and the Steppenwolf Theatre.
She has appeared in the film ‘About Last Night…” which was her first film role. After this she appeared in many films like ‘Big‘, ‘Avalon‘, ‘The Doctor’, ‘He said, She Said’, ‘The Flintstones’, ‘Cloned‘, ‘Try Seventeen’, etc. She appeared for the first time in television in ‘For Their Own Good’. She has also acted in ‘If These Walls Could Talk’, in a mini-series ‘Hercules’ and in the series ‘Weeds’.
She earned the nomination for the Golden Globe Award for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Series, Mini-series or Motion Picture Made for Television for her role in ‘Weeds‘ in 2006 and 2007. She was also nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for ‘Weeds’ in 2006 and 2007. She became a nominee for the Actor Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for ‘Weeds’ in 2007 & 2009. In 2005, she was nominated for the Satellite Award for Outstanding Actress in a Series, Comedy or Musical and in 2006, for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for ‘Weeds‘.
